Are you an artist or arts & culture organization that wants to be involved in Fall for the Arts this year? Read on for all the details!
What is Fall for the Arts? Fall for the Arts is a month-long celebration of arts & culture that began on Cape Cod 6 years ago and expanded to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket last year. The celebration, promoted and marketed by Arts Martha’s Vineyard, runs throughout the month of October, showcasing local artists, and arts & culture organizations who create and sustain the vibrancy and diversity of arts & culture on the Island.
What happens during Fall for the Arts? Each individual organization can decide their level of participation and what kind of events to host during Fall for the Arts. Some of the weekend anchor events coinciding with Fall for the Arts include the Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival, the Living Local Harvest Festival, and the Columbus Day Weekend Artisans Festival. Arts Martha’s Vineyard also hosts a Creative Economy Speaker Series, and other organizations host artist talks, craft demonstrations, musical performances, and activities for children and families.
How can you be involved? The short answer: any way you want to! Arts Martha’s Vineyard hopes to increase participation this year, meaning that if all you do is stay open for the month of October, that would be great! Beyond that, you could invite an artist to give a talk at your gallery, plan an open house at your theater or museum, organize an art stroll or heritage walk, or hold a craft workshop. Whatever your location and resources allow (see below for ideas!). Absolutely be sure to post any events on the Arts Martha’s Vineyard Calendar so they can be promoted in festival marketing. We also ask that you distribute rack cards at your location throughout the summer, even if you can’t participate this year.
Why should you be involved? Martha’s Vineyard has long been a haven for artists and creative individuals and thus boasts a vibrant arts & culture environment – and you are a part of that environment! By marketing Fall for the Arts, Arts Martha’s Vineyard is increasing awareness of arts & culture events on the Island beyond the summer months. The wider marketing reach throughout Cape Cod & the Islands offered by Fall for the Arts at no cost to you, grows audiences and creates new opportunities for your organization to continue shaping arts & culture on Martha’s Vineyard into the month of October.
Let’s get started! Your participation in Fall for the Arts can begin just by circulating rack cards and other promotional materials (e-mail us to get some, or print the pdfs at the bottom of this page!). Also remember to post any and all events at your location on the Art Martha’s Vineyard calendar so that they can be promoted as part of Fall for the Arts. Finally, if you can’t participate this October, please plan to be a part of the celebration next year! With your help, we can continue to grow Fall for the Arts and make Martha’s Vineyard a premier arts & culture destination.
